Meeting on organizing Yen Son, Ba Vi summer camp

In the 2021-2022 school year, as the pandemic situation eased, the Asia Foundation and CED cooperated with Ba Vi commune union to organize a summer camp program on July 23rd-24th 2022 for Dao ethnic students in Yen Son village, Ba Vi commune. To prepare for this summer camp program, CED gathered students who received the Merali Foundation Asia Foundation scholarship term 2 and 3, and CED interns who support the summer camp program to discuss how to implement the program effectively, create a positive environment and bring joy to students in Yen Son village, Ba Vi commune.

The purpose of organizing the summer camp was to create opportunities for students of the scholarship program to contribute to the community through organizing learning and fun activities for children. Through the activities, students could review their knowledge and practice necessary skills. The content of the activities focused on providing pupils with some basic knowledge, allowing them to practice some life skills and hands-on science experiments, helping them to strengthen their practical skills and explore science, thereby enhancing observation of the surrounding world.

Program content: Practice some simple science experiments.

Purpose: Provide children with some simple scientific knowledge to spark an interest in science, inspiring them to explore it further, while also practicing and applying this knowledge in their own life.

Do some simple science experiments: Make confetti bloom in water, blow up balloons with baking soda, etc.

Practice some life skills: Introducing life skills suitable for elementary students (Skills to avoid being bitten by insects, skills to prevent drowning, effective memory skills, etc.)

Fine Arts: Practice coloring, drawing flowers and simple animals.

Staging: Cultural activities (singing, dancing, acting, etc.) are interspersed with experiential activities to create a joyful, vibrant and cohesive atmosphere between students and children throughout the summer camp. The rehearsed musical repertoire will be performed at the final closing ceremony of the summer camp.

The students are divided into 3 groups to develop the content of games, arts and science experiments to create fun for the children.
