About Future Energy Scholarship

Intending to prepare the labor force for the energy sector in Vietnam by providing the scholarship and necessary support for talented students working in the fields of electricity/electronics, AES-TKV Mong Duong Power Co., Ltd. cooperates with the Center for Education and Development (Center) to award Human Energy Scholarship (3rd time, school year 2019-2020) to 20 excellent students from Northern provinces in Vietnam studying Electrical Engineering at Hanoi University of Science and Technology (HUST) and Electricity Power University (EPU). In addition to the financial support of US $600/year, the students will be provided soft skills training courses, career connections and field trips to AES-TKV Mong Duong Power Co., Ltd.

Eligibility

Applicants are required to meet the following eligibility requirements

    • Studying Electrical Engineering
    • Able to demonstrate their talent, passion and determination to pursue Electrical Engineering in their scholarship application form
    • Pass the Interview with the Selection Committee including representatives of AES-TKV Mong Duong Power Co., Ltd., representatives of the Scholarship Program, representatives of the University, and experts in Electricity field.

Beneficiaries

Sophomore, junior, or senior who has strong passion for Electricity and is studying Electrical Engineering at Hanoi University of Science and Technology (HUST) and Electricity Power University (EPU)

Application methods

  • Students apply online or at the Office of Student Affairs at Hanoi University of Science and Technology and Electricity Power University.
  • The university receives eligible applications and collect the application documents from students, then send them to the Center for Education and Development for selecting and making interview lists

Admission process and Awarding

  • The scholarship program will organize interviews to select eligible students for the scholarship.
  • Based on application documents and interview results, the university will coordinate with the Center and consult with AES-TKV Mong Duong Co., Ltd. to create the final list of students awarded with the scholarship.

Schedule for receiving application documents and interviews

    • Schedule for online application or application at Office of Students Affairs: July 1st 2019 – August 30th 2019
    • Schedule for interviews: September 4th-25th 2019
    • Scholarship awarding ceremony: October 2019

Application documents include

  • Application forms
  • CV with photo identification and local certification
  • Declaration of Family background with local certification
  • Certified copy of Family record book
  • Copies of Award certificates (since high school)
  • School transcript of all semesters with GPA from 2.5/4.0 or 7.0/10

AES-TKV Mong Duong Co., Ltd. and the Center will work closely with the two universities to select and award scholars to eligible candidates who meet the criteria of the Program. The list of selected students will be sent to the university and to them directly in September 2018.

About AES-TKV Mong Duong Power Co., Ltd.

AES-VCM Mong Duong Power Company Limited (the “BOT Company”), Owner of Mong Duong 2 BOT Power Project in Mong Duong Ward, Cam Pha City, Quang Ninh Province, is a limited liability company formed by the affiliates of The AES Corporation (USA), Posco Energy (Korea) and China Investment Corporation (China). Starting in December 2010, the BOT Mong Duong 2 Thermal Power Plant Project has a total capacity of 1,242 MW including 2 units with a total investment of approximately 2.1 billion USD. From the date of synchronization with the national electricity grid in April 2015, the two units of Mong Duong 2 have contributed more than 12 billion kWh of electricity to the national electricity network and will contribute more than 7.6 billion kWh per year.

About Center for Education and Development (CED)

With projects in two interrelated, mutually reinforcing program areas, Education and Development, we work to develop innovative solutions and initiatives with a wide range of partners in the public and private sectors in Vietnam. Over the past 7 years, CED has provided long-term scholarships, skills training programs in order to encourage girls to pursue the fields often dominated by men. So far, the program has supported more than 300 well qualified female students not able to study higher education due to financial hardships when studying science, engineering, technology, computer science and information technology from 10 Universities in major cities across the country. In the school year 2018-2019, CED offered more than 400 scholarships for high school girls in Nam Dinh, Dien Bien, An Giang, Can Tho and Hau Giang provinces.
