On November 20, 2017

On November 19th, The Asia Foundation and the Centre for Education and Development (CED), working with the Nam Dinh Association for Promoting Education organized a scholarship ceremony for 114 disadvantaged female students in the province. This program was created by The Asia Foundation, with a donation from Mr. and Mrs. Dodson worth 4 million VND per student per year.

Since 2004, TAF scholarship has supported 201 primary, lower and upper secondary students in Nam Dinh province with a sum of approximately 2,711 million VND. The purpose of the scholarship is to support disadvantaged, female students in graduating high school, challenging social problems, and having a better future.

Representatives of the Asian Foundation and the Nam Dinh Province Study Encouragement Association awarded scholarships to 114 disadvantaged girls in the province.

The scholarship program for secondary schools in Vietnam is part of improving capacity programs for women that TAF developed in Vietnam. “We believe that when a woman, like a mother, has a good job with a stable income, the home will be better, leading to a better society,” Ms. Dinh Kieu Nhung (Scholarship Program Manager at TAF) shared.

“The scholarship gave me more study opportunities. Before, I thought that I would only be able to finish high school, then would have to find a job to help my family. However, since receiving my scholarship, I have been more confident in my university studies. Being a student in university, I have more opportunities to study and grow,” shared Tran Thi Hieu (a student at Hanoi University of Education) after six years of receiving scholarships.

Other than Nam Dinh province, The Asia Foundation scholarship is also present in Can Tho, An Giang and Hau Giang provinces. In this school year, the scholarship program was also expanded to Dien Bien province.
