A memorable Mid-Autumn Festival with students from the scholarship programs

On October 4, 2017

After going to buy foam over 10 kilometers away to decorate the stage, preparing music, and leading the logistics team for the Mid-Autumn Festival, Le Thi Mai – a senior majoring in Information Technology at the School of International Education (Hanoi University of Science and Technology) “suddenly became a child, ran around, was tired but happy”.

Mai used to take part in many activities for specialized training and exchange events, however, this was the first time she attended a major extracurricular event held by the Centre for Education and Development (CED). The Mid-Autumn Festival, on the evening of October 3rd, was held for over 200 children in Yen Son village, Ba Vi commune, Hanoi. This festival was successfully organized by Youth Union members from Yen Son village and 15 students from 3 scholarship programs (Merali, Microsoft YouthSpark and Future Energy AES – VCM).

Mai shared: “Becoming a member of the Microsoft YouthSpark Scholarship program, and experiencing this journey with CED, has been a very memorable experience for me. Thanks to CED for supporting me through the most beautiful period of my life”.

In the Mid – Autumn Festival this year, CED and students from the scholarship program performed a play “The Man in the Moon” and two songs “Ruoc den Thang 8” and “Tieng chuong va ngon co”. There were only 5 days to prepare for this event. There were a lot of difficulties, but the students scheduled their time efficiently in order to allow practice time.

The performers take advantage of the evening after studying and working to practice in a small corner at the National University of Civil Engineering campus.

As the director of the play, Hai Ha (a student from the Microsoft YouthSpark Scholarship program) was initially worried when attending this event due to the amount of exercises in the class. However, she was “really happy when recognizing the good performances of the actors because of the smiles on the faces of all the children.”

There were many children and citizens from Yen Son village attending the Mid – Autumn Festival.

Children from the Yen Son village with their lovely faces and cute smiles amused Ha – making her miss her mom and her home. Ha said “I wish I could be like these children – together with my mom and dad watching the play and eating Mid-Autumn cakes.”

For Nguyen Thi Sen (a student from the Merali Scholarship program), this experience coming back to Yen Son fulfilled a promise to the children after the summer volunteer program in July. “I missed this place, and the children missed us. Before I left for home, the children asked me to meet them for the Mid-Autumn Festival, so I managed to come here despite all my schoolwork.”
